These days I am reflecting on how our human inside may be compared with an ancient elephant- with a tiny rider on top, trying to control this ancient, big, slow elephant.
The rider on top represents the Neo cortex of the human brain. She has certainly an overview, and sees a lot, nevertheless it si not always easy to control the elephant.
The elephant represent the limbic system and the reptilian brain. These parts many have complicated and intertwined functions. But for simplicities sake lets say they are responsible for our emotions, learning, reward system and autonomic functions. Systems established often early in development as a result of relating with caretakers, culture and deeply important experiences.
The elephant holds holds wisdom. Wisdom that lives in our bodies and senses. With curiosity to befriend the play of the rider and the elephant is what embodiment is about.
